BERLINER LUFT / postgraduate film project

Fashioned after the autonomous digital spaces of videogames, Berliner Luft is a virtual construct inpsired by a 1920s Weimar Republic myth of the same name: in the wake of the Imperial Second Reich the democratic Weimar Republic underwent rapid modernisation and witnessed a rapid transformation in moral values, leading to a colourful nightlife that became infamous and celebrated. It was believed that the marshes on which Berlin was built intoxicated the air with a naturally occuring amphetamine that invigorated their nightlife. The construct, composed of existing Berlin buildings found in videgames and cinema, provides a physical infrastructure that maintains a drug infused environment for its videogame character inhabitants, allowing the myth to become a functioning process.
