Compost Creative produced a range of content for Dunkirk: The New Evidence, a factual documentary for Channel 4 that covered recent research shedding light on the role of the British Royal Air Force during the famous evacuation. We made a series of frozen moments - full cg recreations of scenes depicted in archive photography - allowing us to seamlessly dive into the scenes from the archive and explore the drama.

I produced a thirty second shot for the documentary, responsible for designing, 3d modelling and lookdeving the environment, as well as matchmove and the final composite. The shot required meticulous camera matching of the archive footage, filmed from the cockpit of a German Luftwaffe plane dive bombing the main pier at Dunkirk, and a seamless cg takeover as the camera left the cockpit and dived down to the soldiers - the final composite involved layers of camera projection, cg environment renders, 2d and 3d atmospherics, and a static crowd particle system.
