- project type FILMIC - design type CONCEPTUAL / VISUAL
I was approached during preproduction to help plan the making of the independent short film Marzone, directed by Anastasia Arsan and produced by Distant Memory Films. Set in the near future, the film tells the story of the first three astronauts to colonise Mars, where their every move is broadcast back to Earth as reality tv by the aerospace company Marzone Inc.
The film was heavily dependent on the proprietary communication technology they used, both to build a convincing world but also to hit pivotal narrative moments. I developed a graphic identity for the fictional Marzone Inc. which wove it’s way through every part of the film, including the fictional user interfaces that operated the spacestation, motion graphic cutaways, and large scale set extensions which required dedicated environment design. As well as working on the overarching production design, I delivered twenty-two individual shots using a full range of typical VFX techniques: on-set supervision, 3d camera tracking, 2d and 3d animation, and compositing CG imagery with live action footage.
