Compost Creative were approached to produce the vfx and motion graphics for the independent film Limbo, directed by Rob Silva and Andrew Morris, and produced by Limbo Films / Rather Good films. The narrative tells the story of a man living in anguish over the loss of his daughter who one day gets an unexpected visit by someone from his past, triggering his reality to unravel. This psychological transformation was expressed in a destruction sequence lasting more than two minutes which required a complete CG recreation of the filming location.

My responsibilities covered building the environment in its various states of destruction, involving 3d modelling, look development and lighting as well as filming and compositing of practical fx elements. A detailed analysis of the flashing on-set lighting, and the development of a compositing pipeline utilising javascript expressions enabled the synchronisation of the CG and practical lighting across all shots and different contributors’ projects. The sequence climaxes with a series of abstract close-up character shots, which required art direction, for which I was responsible, as well as assembling the 3d scene, lighting and the final composite.
